told me never to forget where he came from.
Every afternoon when he went for his rest I used to lay behind his back and he told me his
family is in ilu ilu (spelt iloilo in the Phillipines).
When I married George Clarence’s second youngest son Richard (Dick), fifty years ago he
was a fisherman. In the struggle to make ends meet we decided that none of our children
would ever become fishermen.
When Dick and myself got converted through the Ministry of the Bible Institute students in
Kalk Bay we went into full time ministry; we have 3 children in the ministry in Canada and
two here in Cape Town, plus one who is a civil engineer.
Well my eldest son became a shipwright and said “you never allowed me to go fishing but I
still work with the sea building boats.” He also joined the ministry.
I know this is a long letter but you can imagine what this book means to us - it is precious.
The letter goes on to describe how they were invited to go and minister in the city of ilu ilu
and how they have met up with some of the De la Cruz family there.
It is signed Hester Clarence.
From the reports we have we know that the book has gone to Australia, America, Canada,
England, Scotland, Ireland, Holland, Israel, the Phillipines and Zimbabwe. We are also
informed that the Minister of Environmental Affairs and some of the top people in the
Government and Department of Fisheries have also received copies.
When the book shops phoned wanting more copies we had to decide to have a reprint. These
arrived today and I have brought some with me tonight should anyone want a copy.
