La Rozette Cape Point Cove at Platboom The wreck of this vessel was found close to Cape Point on 1786/08/19
(near Brightwater) 19 August 1786, and its identity established, although no
living person was aboard. Several days later six seamen
were found in Cape Town under suspicious circumstances
and arrested. It was later found that they'd murdered the
officers and other crew (5 other according to Van der
Bosch) aboard the vessel, and then run it ashore. They
were tried for murder and executed.

(Near Ore Loading after running for shelter from a gale. At about 1pm while

set her on the shore and she remained fast. No lives lost.
Attempts by G Austin & Co. to salvage the vessel failed,
and only some of her cargo was saved. Marsh suggests
the vessel was a steamer.

been coaling. At 12.40am on 5 August she struck rocks
and 3 boats were launched. The Chief Officer's boat
landed at Slangkop - nine men were saved in that boat,
but 6 drowned in the surf.. Subsequently, another 10 men
were saved from the wreck by rocket apparatus. 32 lives
were lost. Two of the casualties were the result of a
lifeboat capsizing in the surf at Kommetjie. They were
buried on the highest dune near the Slangkop Lighthouse,
next to the grave of Armed Corsettee, who died on the
Clan Monroe in 1905. The graves were marked by
crossed laid out in stones. The wreck is a favourite
